Happy Birthday Mummy!

We went to Grand Shanghai restaurant on the eve of her bday with Uncle Mervin and Johnathan. Actually wanted to celebrate on her actual day but Grand Shanghai is fully reserved a week ago.
It was situated at Grand Copthorne Water front hotel which is the hotel just next to Zouk. This is my first time at Grand Shanghai but 2nd time at the Waterfront hotel.

Grand Shanghai. The entrance.
The design inside the restaurant is really nice, it just brought you back to the old Shanghai where everything is about glamorous.

I love the bar counter, it is so oldies and all the poster of the 30s, 40s Qi Pao girls, which reminded me so much of Tang Wei.

The design and ambience are nice and cosy, its like, you know, those Old Shanghai scene in the HK drama. I've been to the modern shanghai, but its far from this lor.

If you dunwan to be spotted or prefered a quite place, they actually have it.

And there were a lot of ang moh in suit in the VIP room. Hee...
Which I think its so funny, as if they really know about the culture.

Ok more about the foodss...

Xiao Long Bao.

I love Xiao Long Bao but when I eat this, I really dun like it. It has a fishy smell that I always hate it.

Prawn in the Chili Crab sauce.
Its so special, the sause was really nice, as in its really Chili crab sauce. The texture of the prawn was superb, the prawn seems to jump in your mouth.

Then the tofu, I dun eat tofu but for this, I really ate a lot. The tofu is like melting in your mouth. Love it.

If you really cant see what this is, its actually crab.
Its crab in salty egg yolk, it is so salty at the first bite but after that, you really think it is VERY nice. And you couldn't find it anywhere in Singpore, they only have it in Grand Shanghai. *drool*

Then came another crab.
A very simple dish, just fried the crabs with ginger.
But it still tastes really good, the crabs were fresh that's why it tastes so nice.

And my all-time favourite peking duckkkk...

I love love peking duck with all my life.
They help us to wrap the peking duck up and it tastes up to its expectation man.
But eating peking duck, abit wasted coz you only eat the skin then the meat is like wasted. Hee...

The last dish of the day is the cripsy chicken. I bet they fried it to make it so cripsy.
Yet, i dun feel sick of having too much.

The Grand Shanghai even gets a Chinese Singer to sing all the oldies songs.
The whole ambience just brought you back to the those days...
Everytime when she finished one song, everyone will applause for her, the fact is that she really can sing and she is pretty with big boobs. Hehe...

Take a series of photo while waiting for my dessert.

Actually we were not very full but during the time when we ordered our food, the waitress looked very worried and told us that if we order more we might not be able to finish. It is not the first time anw, its like everytime we go a restuarant, the waiter or waitress often told us we ordered too much. -_-

I mean they are like helping us to save money. I tot they should be encourging us to order more right?

And my dessert came. I ordered honeydew sago but they ran out of it so I changed it to mango pudding. I dun really like it coz the real mango was very sour. My sis always tells me she dun like chinese dessert coz they dun put their heart in doing the dessert.

The total bill was $350++, but I felt it is worth it for all those nice and delicious dishes plus there are some dishes that outside couldn't get right.

*******************************************

On my Mum's birthday.
We went for shopping during the afternoon. She bought so much things, example like a lifetime of bra supply. I think she is a bit crazy. She always said that she got no this and no that then she will buy so much so much but few days later she will continue saying that she got no this and not that. That is so crazy of her lah...

I gave her a white bag as present and she insisted it look like the kate spade which is so funny. Hahahaha...

And she made my sister buy her a white shirt coz she complained that she doesn't have any white shirt which of course precisely she has tons of them.

Then we were all very tired and headed to Liat tower from Raffles city and can you imagine how bloody crowded the train was. We didn't drive coz Fri will be Jamming like mad and there will be no parking space available. We had vegetarian food at LingZhi which is at the Liat Tower, I have been there once and that was like when I was 16yrs old.

LingZhi was actually under the Tung Lok group and it serves chinese vegetarian food.

Stupid sis with my mum while waiting for the food to come.

Me. Looking completely not like my sis but dun understand why pple could ask us whether we are twins. How funny!

The spinach soup, looking super gross. But taste nice, just like eating seaweed except it is in a liquid state.

And my soup: The vegetarian sour and spicy soup. Taste really not nice...

Then came the first dish.
Fried tofu with special sauce. And the sauce taste like some chicken chop sauce, its one of the nicest tofu I had before. One tofu for one person and it costs $7 b4 GST and service charge. But its tofu leh, din know tofu can be so expensive.

The so called sweet and sour pork. Very de not nice but ok for vegetarian food. Haha...

This was something like those hot pot or dunno what. The mushroom inside was nice and chewy. The texture taste like meat somemore.

Then the roll of dunno what mushroom. It was fried but taste rather refreshing, one of the best dish that night.

LingZhi having promotion that if you have DBS american express credit card, you could get one free dish if you ordered 3dishes so we got one dishes for free.

When the bill came, it was quite shocking $90++ going $100 for that 3dishes of vegetarian food leh. Vegetarian food leh... No meat at all. All with mushroom, flour and vegetable and it costs so much. Boooooo... Which is really expensive.

Then we walked over to Shaw Centre to buy authentic Japanese style cake for my Mum.
I love their cake like hell. It tastes so good... I miss Japan eh.

Orchard was once again decorated with really nice lighting.
Then we hopped onto a taxi and return home coz we were really tired that day.
